    Sideshow Mel
    of proud Cornell
    Is clearly the better choice
    A whistling comic genius
    With a melifluous British voice.
    But aside from stellar diction
    His lecture would not fail
He could quote his classic one-liner:
“Applause is an addiction –Like heroin or email.”

No one will fall asleep at Sideshow Mel’s lecture.

Sideshow Mel can’t be a successful professor or guest lecturer. Not because he is incapable, or because he lacks talent, but because his inherent nature forces him into humiliating and demeaning roles while glumly commenting on his squandered abilities. Why does he merely remain an assistant to a clown, and act as the target of pies? Because deep down, he needs to fail in order to be funny.

Making him a professor or a lecturer would be a contradiction of Sideshow Mel’s basic nature because it would recognize and celebrate his talents, much like making him a successful actor, scholar, politician, or businessman. It can’t happen, because if it did, he wouldn’t be Sideshow Mel anymore. He would just be Mel.

Ellie Arroway would be the best professor because she is not only qualified to teach, but because she wouldn’t sabotage her own success.
